Total Success and a Bonus! -Story: Danny Cruz

The Velauno End of Summer Party 2006 was a rocking success! Mike's Band (Maripili: Bass/vocals, Bruno: Guitar/vocals, Danny: Drums) played a very fun show to a full house at EL CONDE. The band played for a little over an hour while the audience enjoyed the delicious pizza and ultra-cold Quilmes beer. The music ranged from Green Day, Maná and The Clash covers to a couple of original numbers.

There were a few mentions of Birthdays and Anniversaries, a few improv singers like ATC Mike's performance and a lot great vibe from everybody there. All in all: sorry if you missed it! Quite honestly, I had never seen so many people on the shop's terrace.

The end of the show was the beginning of another great experience. It just so happened that it was a full moon night. At one point, ROSS - camp instructor and Cuba Libre extraordinare, went out to check the beach. He came back to inform everybody that it was windy.

There was continous talk of going windsurfing at midnight for about 20 minutes until someone finally made up their mind. The band hurriedly put all the music gear away while everybody headed for the beach.

At the beach, at about 12am, there we're about 2 kites and a 8 or so windsurfers. Reportedly, the midnight crew was: Manuel, Pamela, Xavier, Antoine, Katgie, Mike Vicens, Danny, Mike Poland, Christophe, Ross, Maripili, Paulina, Bruno and Matt.

There was just enough light to see we're you we're going and not run someone over (although there were a few close calls!) The wind was howling and the night was beautiful. For many, it was their first night-sailing experience. High-speed runs, midnight vulcans and ripping carves in the dark were the norm of the night. All this among loud cheering and screaming from all those involved. ATC Mike went out on a surfboard to take some photos and video. He was just as stoked as those riding. Later, he was joined by Katgie and Pamela also on surfboards. If you ask me, it's quite ballsy to paddle out in the middle of the night - Props to the girls!

The sailing went on 'till like 1:30am although it remained windy throughout the night. After that, half of the crew was beat and ready for bed. The rest wanted to party even more so they went on to watch the night's photos at ATC Mike's place. That, after getting kicked out of the Park Boulevard pool!

Special thanks go out to:
Velauno - for the practice space, (and the mic stands!)
El Conde - for the venue and the awesome pizza.
Juan Coronel - for losing sleep upstairs from our loud practicing.
Villa Music - for the sweet soundgear - thanks JUAN!
Manuel Baez, Sr and ATC Mike and Sebastian - for the Photos
...and to Mike Poland for the Drumkit & ATC Mike for the Amp.
