Stand Up Paddleboarding Events

We have held lots of paddleboarding events in the past but the future is looking great! We have a summer chock full of racing events and demos.

2009 Velauno Summer SUP Series

This Race Series consists of a collection of SUP Racing events held throughout Puerto Rico during the summer. The events may be put together by one of several organizations but they all share a consistent race format and divisions. Participation in the events along with series registration earns competitors points towards a series ranking.

Next Event : San Juan SUP Run - Pro Edition

This classic long distance SUP race will now be the first Professional SUP competition ever held. Velauno is putting up $1000 in cash prizes plus trophies and raffle items! This amazing event takes Puerto Rico's Top Elite SUP racers and ambitious amateurs on a scenic tour of San Juan.

The start is in beautiful Condado Lagoon. From there the fleet cross under the Dos Hermanos Bridge in the challenging Atlantic Ocean and head downwind on the North Coast of San Juan. The 500 year old El Morro Castle welcomes the competitors into the protected San Juan. Racers are treated to the most spectacular views of the old city as they work their way back upwind to the lagoon. After 7 miles of hardcore paddling, the last stretch is a smooth water paddle over the crystal clear waters of Condado Lagoon to a beach front finish in front of hundreds of spectators.

Meanwhile, the weekend warriors compete inside the beautiful Condado Lagoon in 3.5 mile course that has them cross several bridges and finish in grand fashion on the beach, in front of friends and family.

The afternoon will feature a great BBQ lunch, a new surprise SUP fun racing contest for all levels plus the first ever SUP event for kids of all ages. All this great fun will followed by the award ceremony were will hand out beautiful hand-crafted trophies, $1000 to the winners and placers in all the divisions of the Elite race plus a raffle for some great prizes.

Event Basics:

Date: Sunday November 15, Condado lagoon
Elite Course 7.5 miles - Open Ocean Around San Juan Course
WW Course 3.5 miles - Lagoon Lap Course
Racing starts 9 am sharp
Entry Fee is $49 Elite (racing for cash and trophies)
$29 for weekend warrios, $19 for kids 11-15, cash only on-site, includes T-shirt, breakfast, lunch and raffle tickets
Event counts towards the V1-SSS ranking

Rental Boards Available: We will have 14' raceboards available for rent for $95 and 12' and 11'6" rental boards and paddles available for just $45. Bioluminescent Lagoon Night Trip, Some time in November

Gather at Velauno some time in November @ 7:30 pm for the caravan drive to Fajardo. Then a couple of hours of night paddling in the mind blowing, glow in the dark lagoon. This tour is super popular and fun. Do not miss this amazing trip that you will want to do over and over again!

...Velauno's "learn-to-kiteboard" beach is Isla Verde, just minutes from our shop.

The kiting conditions ideal: side-shore winds with a wide sand beach and palm trees. Winds average 12 – 25 knots and the temperature is balmy 80F year-round.
